We booked a 2 day / 1 night tour with Viola Cruise via our hotel and we were not disappointed. The rooms are nice and clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Our guide Phong made a perfect job during the whole tour and made us have a really great time. A clear recommodation if you want to visit the Ha long Bay and its beautiful spots during your stay in Hanoi.

Excellent tour. Been on 2 day/ 1 night trip but they also offer el days with 2 night spent on board. Good size cabin of really good standard. Comfy twin beds, little balcony and very good en suite bathroom. Good food, nice touring program and all round really pleasant experience with a professional and we’ll organized company. Highly recommended.

Following consultations with our hotel in Hanoi, the manager suggested to book a 2 day-one night tour with Viola Cruises as they have one of the newer boats in the bay and as they offer a really good program, so I booked it. This is what you get for your money:

You will be picked up in the morning of the first cruise day by a smaller bus. The busses are always accompanied by a tour guide and in our case it was a lovely lady by the name of Hao. She welcomed everybody and gave us good information about the upcoming ride on the bus, the cruise itself and many other facts and figures about Ha Log and Vietnam in general. She is very knowledgeable, helpful, and professional and we couldn’t have gotten a better one.

After some 2+ hours driving the bus stops in Hai Duong at ABC’s rest stop where you can use restrooms, stroll through the souvenir shops or get a snack in the small restaurant. After a total driving of around 3,5 hours the bus arrives at the sea port and gateway to the Ha Long bay.

Here you will embark onto a small barge which takes you to the boat. Upon boarding the junk all guests (usually a very reasonable number of people) will be greeted and welcomed with tea and then have their rooms assigned. After moving in to the rooms (which are just adorable, nicely decorated, some with balconies) it is lunch time, consisting of several courses of different delicious Vietnamese dishes. About 30 minutes after lunch is over it is time to board the barge again because it is time to go to the swimming village, from there to kajak the bay (great fun for two per boat) and then to do some swimming on the nearby beach, watching the sunset from there. Eventually you will be brought back to the ship, to take a shower, change and then to meet on the sun deck for a small ice breaker with free wine before dinner.

After the super delicious multiple course sea food dinner it is free time on the bar or the sun deck until next morning.

If one likes the staff offers Tai Chi at 06:20 in the morning, right before a quick continental breakfast. Right after breakfast the barge will then take you to the famous caves where the tour guide will show and explain you all the hidden secrets of this gorgeous cavern. After this excursion it is back to the boat, a last shower and then check-out. If one likes there is a possibility to learn how to make those delicious Vietnamese spring rolls. Cooking class is on the sun deck and the spring rolls are later on served as part of the lunch (again several courses with fish, seafood, meats and veggies) Well, and then it is time to bid the ship farewell, you will be taken back to the port by barge, back on the bus, and you should have returned to your hotel not later then 5 p.m.

All in all a fantastic experience, Ha Long Bay is truly a wonder of nature one just has to visit once in his lifetime, but it is even better with the extraordinary Viola Tours experience and with such a great tour guide as Ms Hao, thank you very much for an unforgettable travel highlight.
